Update on visitation to Residential Aged Care until 31 May 2020

May 12, 2020

The state of emergency has been extended a third time, now until 31st May 2020. This has also extended the restrictions on visitors to residential aged care homes. The government have suggested that there may be cautious easing of restrictions after this date and we will advise if there are any changes.

The Deputy Chief Health Officer has announced the updated Care Facilities Directions (No.3) which states that during this next stage:

  • A resident may only have one care and support visit each day.
  • A care and support visit means a visit of no longer than 2 hours made to a resident by one person, or two persons together. This is not two visits a day.

All other restrictions remain in place, a visitor must not enter or remain on the premises of a Facility between midnight on 11 May and midnight on 31 May 2020 if:

  1. during the 14 days immediately preceding the entry, the person arrived in Australia from a place outside Australia; or
  2. during the 14 days immediately preceding the entry, the person had known contact with a person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19; or
  3. the person has a temperature higher than 37.5 degrees or symptoms of acute respiratory infection; or
  4. the person does not have an up to date vaccination against influenza, if such a vaccination is available to the person; or
  5. the person is aged under 16 years, however there may be exceptions; or
  6. the person has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and has not been given or taken to have been given clearance from self-isolation.”

We appreciate that there have been other changes announced which effect the larger community while we have more strict conditions. We are obliged to abide by these directives and if need to discuss their impacts or gain clarity, please contact your managers, Catrina and Ariella at Reservoir and Cam and Joy at Moonee Valley.
