Dear Resident and Families,
RE: Embracia Reservoir – confirmed lockdown as investigation continues
As announced yesterday, 3rd July, we received the unfortunate advice that a new case of COVID-19 had been detected in a staff member from Embracia Reservoir. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) are currently investigating and it has been identified that the staff member acquired the infection from contacts outside of Embracia. This case is not linked to the previous case identified at Embracia Reservoir.
The staff member was identified as a close contact of another person in the community who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and so the staff member was recommended to be tested. Although they were not showing any symptoms, they tested positive to COVID-19 and they are now in isolation. This reminds us that we must continue to be vigilant and practice good hygiene and social distancing to maintain infection control everywhere we go.
As a precaution, it is necessary to close the home to visitors until further test results become available. Residents will be required to remain in their rooms for the time being. These restrictions may be relaxed in the coming days in consultation with the DHHS however, in the meantime, this means that no visitors are allowed into the home. Again, we encourage you to utilise alternative forms of communication during this lockdown time so you may remain in contact with your loved ones. As we did before, our staff will increase their engagement with residents to help reassure them and keep them informed.
We have activated our emergency response plan and the government’s COVID-19 response team will again attend the home to support our staff. Cleaning of the home and testing of all residents and staff is underway. We are utilising the testing services provided by the Victorian Government to gain test results more quickly. Contact tracing is still being completed and once we identify who is a close contact, they will be notified and required to isolate and be tested too.
The Commonwealth Department of Health and the DHHS are working closely with us to ensure the ongoing health and safety of our residents and staff. We want to reassure you that we have sufficient supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other resources. Our staff have been trained, and now have firsthand experience, in what is required to manage these incidents. We will be required to utilise PPE and our management team will monitor the processes closely. There will be additional contract staff working in the home to support our residents and staff. They will provide additional support with meals, cleaning and on occasion may assist our regular staff with providing care. However, where possible, our Embracia staff will be providing direct care to residents to provide some continuity and normality in these unique times.
We will keep you informed of the progress of test results and any other information as it comes to hand. If you have any concerns related to the lockdown, please contact management (Catrina or Ariella), so we may address your enquiry, ph. 9469 5555.
We will continue to provide you information as it becomes available. Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation.
We provide exceptional aged care in an intimate community that feels like home.
