Dear Residents, Families and Friends,
Re: Embracia Moonee Valley – Update on cases and some testing results from yesterday
We would like to update you on the progress of our residents with COVID-19. We are saddened to report that one of our residents who was sent to hospital passed away yesterday while still in hospital. Our condolences and thoughts are with their family at this difficult time. The other resident remains in hospital under observation. Unfortunately, a third resident has gone to hospital this afternoon. Of the five cases we have two residents at Embracia Moonee Valley, one who has symptoms is stable, and the other remains asymptomatic.
This afternoon, following our daily meeting with the Commonwealth, DHHS, Quality Commission and the Public Health Unit, it was directed that we place all households at Embracia Moonee Valley into a full internal lockdown. This means all staff working with residents will use full PPE. Our team have immediately worked on implementing this substantial set up and all households are now in full PPE.
Separate to yesterday’s testing, we have another staff member test positive to COVID-19 who was unwell early in the week. They went and got tested on Tuesday and late today received their positive result. They last worked at Embracia Moonee Valley last Friday 10th July in Chatham household and was asymptomatic. They worked while wearing a mask as we were already in lockdown. They were tested last Saturday at our first round of testing and that result was negative. It was after that they developed symptoms and were tested Tuesday and have been isolation. We thank this staff member for doing the right thing and getting tested as soon as they had symptoms. We believe the staff member is unlikely to have put anyone at the home at risk, however, we will have more confidence around that in the next 24-48 hours as more results come back from yesterday’s tests.
As we have already advised, yesterday we conducted our second round of testing for residents and staff. We can share early results, with 188 results all showing negative to COVID-19. This 188 is a combination of both staff and residents, we will break it down for clarity. We had 131 residents tested and we have received 64 results that are all negative results. We had 160 staff tested and we have 124 staff all negative results. We will continue to communicate with you over the weekend as the results keep coming through. Please make sure you regularly check our website, Facebook, and Instagram for frequent updates. We understand this is an incredibly emotional and stressful time. Now more than ever, we need your love and prayers to assist us to beat this awful virus. Together we will get through this.
Kind regards and stay safe,
We provide exceptional aged care in an intimate community that feels like home.
