Embracia Moonee Valley – Residents cleared, but another round of testing is required

August 22, 2020

Dear Residents, Families and Friends,

Re: Embracia Moonee Valley – Residents cleared, but another round of testing is required

We were pleased to share that our final 3 pending cases returned NEGATIVE results.  This means from Wednesday’s testing this week, 100% of our staff and residents returned negative results for the second round in a row.

As reported previously, Embracia has continued to push DHHS for clearance of our positive resident cases, as they have all been clinically stable and we believe if they lived in the community, similar to our staff that have tested positive, they would have already received clearance sooner, just as our staff did.  We are delighted to report that as of today ALL residents have been CLEARED of COVID-19, meaning they are no longer infectious and no longer pose any risk to others.  They are also likely to have immunity to the virus, meaning they themselves are not at risk of re-infection from others.

All of last week we had been directed by DHHS that our Day 11 testing on Wednesday, if all were Negative, this would move our home to active surveillance.  Unfortunately, not all our news is good today.  Cameron and Joy have been actively chasing DHHS for resident clearance, as well as approval to move to active surveillance.  Today, whilst calling DHHS, Cameron was informed of an agency staff member who worked at our home on 10th August had tested positive.  This was the first time anyone at Embracia had been informed of this.  They have given us the very difficult task of trying to contact trace who this agency staff member worked with 12 days ago!  Frustration doesn’t even begin to explain how we feel after receiving this information, as it seems contact tracing remains an issue in Victoria.  We will continue to do what we can with contact tracing for this agency staff member and work with DHHS on this case.  It is just comprehensible that last night DHHS were talking to us regarding active surveillance and today they are talking another round of testing due to a case that became active 12 days ago.  Sadly, the rollercoaster continues!

As a result of this new information, we are now required to do another round of testing for residents and staff.  This testing is planned for 24th August.  Following those tests, if all negative again, we hope and pray this will then mean we can move to active surveillance, for resident and staff freedoms and your restricted visitation.

We are sorry and disappointed that we can’t bring you better news and bring you closer to being able to see your loved one.  It is more frustrating that we cannot give residents more freedoms yet to start to enjoy normal household life.  And for our staff, we are frustrated that they have to remain in full PPE, which is far more work and more exhausting.  So to our staff and residents, we thank you for your patience and resilience.

We do not want to leave you on a down note, so please let’s all be happy for the residents and their families who now have official confirmation that they have recovered from COVID-19 and this also means Embracia Moonee Valley has no active cases, just one round of testing to go.

Stay safe and take care of each other,
