Embracia Moonee Valley – COVID exposure snap lockdown

December 10, 2021

Dear Residents and Families

RE: Embracia Moonee Valley – COVID exposure snap lockdown

Regrettably we are advising you that we have moved the home into a snap lockdown due to what is being called an exposure of COVID-19. The new protocols from DHHS, state that “A COVID-19 exposure is where ONE COVID-19 positive staff member, or a COVID-19 positive visitor has exposed the facility during their infectious period.” The home is to go into lockdown, restrict visitation, and residents and staff are to be tested. When all results are received (usually within 24 hours) and if all results are negative, we can lift the lockdown.

This afternoon we were informed a staff member had tested positive to COVID-19 and had worked in Tulloch Household during their infectious period. They were asymptomatic and passed all screening prior to experiencing symptoms after their last shift. They dutifully went to be tested and returned a positive result. We would like to thank the staff member for staying away from work as soon as they became symptomatic and went to be tested.

The advice from DHHS this afternoon was to lock down the home and restrict visitors until we receive the test results, which will determine any further action. They directed us to test the one household where the exposure occurred, however we have tested the neighbouring household too as a further precaution. The staff in both households are now wearing full PPE. We expect the results from these tests by tomorrow afternoon and if they are all negative, it is likely we can lift the lockdown.

Residents are encouraged to remain in their households until we receive the test results. All other staff are not required to wear full PPE as directed by DHHS. We hope that this will have minimal impact as long as the results come back early tomorrow.

We will keep you informed tomorrow of the outcome of the testing and ask you to check our website, Facebook and Instagram for more immediate information regarding what we hope will be a temporary lockdown.

Kind regards
