Dear Residents, Families and Friends,
Re: Embracia Moonee Valley COVID-19 Test results from first round
We are committed to keeping you informed, and we are providing these letters and updates on our website, Facebook, and Instagram for ready reference. In this unique time, we ask that you try to be patient and wait for these regular, formal communications. This will ensure that the phone lines will be available for families to contact residents and not be engaged by others seeking information that has already been shared. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we try and keep everyone informed and connected.
Last Saturday afternoon we conducted testing for all 135 residents and 127 staff. At this stage we have received the results for 126 residents, and we are pleased to announce they have all returned a negative result. These residents do not have COVID-19. We are still waiting on the results for the remaining nine residents and hopefully we will have these results within the next 24 hours. We still have 14 staff who are waiting for their results too. Late this afternoon we were advised by DHHS that the Sonic testing teams will return for the second round of testing on Thursday 16th July.
We also need to report that, unrelated to the current case, one other staff member has returned a positive result to COVID-19 on Sunday 12th July. However, we have been advised by the Public Health Unit (PHU) that they were not contagious while they were at work last Wednesday 8th July. The staff member voluntarily went to be tested on Tuesday 7th July because they live in a hotspot and they returned a negative result. However, on Saturday 11th they developed symptoms and were tested again the same day which has returned a positive result.
The staff member last worked on Wednesday 8th and were across the Northerly and Tulloch households. They did not have any symptoms on Wednesday and have not been back to work since. Our two staff who have tested positive, have not been in contact with each other, nor worked together and as advised by the PHU this second staff member was not contagious when at work. We must stress this case is not related to the first case reported last week. This means that these cases have each been contracted from outside the home, in the community. This shows how prevalent the virus is in the broader community now. However, it is encouraging that all residents in the households this staff member worked, (Northerly and Tulloch), have all returned negative results from the weekend’s testing.
These staff members have acted responsibly by identifying themselves as soon as they became unwell, were tested, and stayed away from work. We thank them for their vigilance and their consideration for us all. This is a reminder that if you are feeling unwell, you need to be tested and isolate yourself until you receive the results.
A reminder that the second round of testing will be take place on Thursday the 16th July and following that we await further direction from DHHS for our next steps and duration of our lockdown. As soon as we have more information, we will share with you via email for first contacts and social media, please make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates.
