Changes to visiting Embracia Victoria homes

March 30, 2020

Dear Residents, Families and Friends

As our world as we know it changes each day and even each hour, Embracia Victoria is staying informed and making decisions in line with State and Federal Government advice and directives in relation to COVID-19.

Last night we were informed as a nation of the following:

  • Gatherings have reduced to only 2 people.
  • Only essential outings such as visiting supermarkets or pharmacies
  • Attending medical appointments
  • Exercise
  • Attending work
  • Over 70’s especially STAY HOME

Considering all of this, Embracia Victoria are setting down new rules with the aim of keeping our residents and staff safe and playing our part in flattening the curve.

Effective Immediately:

  • We move to change visits to 1 person, once a day for maximum 30mins, in line with social gathering rules.
  • We deem it not essential for our residents to attend a supermarket or pharmacy as we have enough food supplies as well as a pharmacy that delivers. We also have a trolley with treats and small little supplies for residents to purchase from our lifestyle team.
  • General Practitioners have been requested to use Telehealth for all non-essential reviews and only come when the registered nurse deems a face to face consultation is required.
  • Specialist appointments need to be discussed with management prior to the date.

We wish to thank each one of you who have adapted to the new visiting rules and you have played your part in keeping our residents and staff safe.  However, we have had some families abuse our rules over the weekend, even after being informed and directly warned by staff. For these individuals, we have been forced to ban their entry to our home due to their total disregard.  These might seem like extreme measures, but we can assure these are more serious times than what we have seen before and we won’t hesitate to act.

We want to continue to encourage you to set up new lines of communication with your loved one, as we strongly believe we will be in full lock down in the near future.  Please take this as a limited opportunity to get a phone, an iPad or other devices so you can ensure you stay connected with your loved one.  Our team will do their part to the best of our ability to help each resident stay connected.

We wish to thank our amazing staff who front up each day to help support our residents and to the management team at each home who have a huge job of coordinating the home, supporting staff, residents and each of you as we all work together in our fight against COVID-19.

The sooner we all work together as a community and as a society, the closer we are to flattening the curve and coming out the other side.

Please, on behalf of all the team at Embracia Victoria, stay safe!

Kind regards

Sarah MacKenzie
